When I got pregnant with our first child, my husband and I agreed that I should focus in taking care of our child. I knew that it was the right decision. I mean, who else can raise our children better than their mother, right?
Quitting my career as the lead graphic designer to become a stay-at-home-mom was risky, but I get to be a hands-on mom. Nonetheless, having been an independent woman, who has always been career driven, I felt that I was not accomplished much and slowly fell into depression…I was losing myself in the mid of motherhood.
I've decided that I need to do other activities along side with caring for my child. I've begun to sew baby clothes for him and picked up many art and craft skillsets along the way. Soon, I've realized that I am really good at it. Making one-of-a-kind creations with my own hands brought me joy.
Tailoring has always been in my blood. I've learned how to sew growing up around my seamstress mother. I even won a few fashion awards while taking fashion classes in college. My parents are creative people, so I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Now, I enjoy various different crafty hobbies such as sewing, crocheting, making ribbon floral products, jewelries making, baking, etc. Basically anything that required creativity, imagination and working with my own hands.
I am a mother of two now, and I've always wanted the best for my children. I've learned to make clothes, crochet sweaters, hats and socks, and make flower hair clips, etc. for my son and daughter. They always are the best dressed kids. :-)
I made my first bowtie for my husband to wear on our 6th years wedding anniversary. It was a beautiful cherry blossoms print from a piece of vintage Japanese kimono silk that I loved and purchased from Ebay. When we went to dinner to celebrate our anniversary, the bowtie received so many compliments. We posted a few pictures of the evening on my Facebook, within minutes one of my friends asked me if I can make him a similar bowtie. I've been making more and more bowtie ever since.
Each bowtie I've made is unique and beautiful in its own right. Before I knew it, I have an Etsy Store specialized in bowties that inspired by Japanese vintage art, whimsical characters and interesting prints.
I love discovering new fabrics that would make memorable bowties. I love designing and creating rare, timeless, one-of-a-kind pieces. Designing, creating and sewing help me discover myself again, and it definitely help me to become a better mom, a happier mom. :-D
It'd been more than six years since my journey as a bowtie designer, many of my girlfriends asked how come I don't have any women accessories in my Etsy store? So I've decided to broaden my store's offering and open a women's accessories section. These are one-of-a-kind bags and jewelries that I've created using the best materials I could find. Please support these beautiful creations like how you have favored my men accessories.
With all my sincerity,
Kari
